The Pittsburgh Passion defense continues to play well during the Passion’s undefeated start to the season.
In their latest win, that defensive unit allowed just six points as the Passion defeated the Carolina Phoenix 41-6 to improve to 5-0.
The Passion offense wasn’t too shabby either.
Passion Quarterback Lisa Horton hit Sharon Vasquez for a 65-yard touchdown pass on the first play of the game and the Passion cruised from there.
After the Passion defense forced a three-and-out, Rachel Wojdowski caught the first of her three touchdown receptions to put the Passion up 14-0.
Pittsburgh added an eight-yard rushing touchdown from Tara Catone and a 24-yard pass from Horton to Wojdowski to take a 28-6 lead at the half.
It was more of the same in the second half.
A Jessica Nelko fumble recovery led to a one-yard touchdown run from Tia Montgomery. Horton connected with Wojdowski again, this time from four yards out to make it a 42-6 game.
Horton threw for 180 yards and four touchdowns. Her first touchdown pass of the game was the 150th of her career.
Passion rookie running back Catone led the way on the ground with 97 yards and one touchdown. Wojdowski led the wide receivers with four catches for 74 yards and three touchdowns. Vasquez also had three reception for 100 yards and a touchdown.
Jillian Croce led the Passion defense with six tackles and two interceptions. Olivia Griswold added three tackles, two for a loss, and one sack. Nelko had six tackles and one fumble recovery.
After a bye week next week, the Passion return to action on May 30 when they travel to New York to face the Sharks. The Passion’s next home game will be June 6 against Toledo.
