The Pittsburgh Passion has been named the 2012 Dapper Dan Sportswoman of the Year. This historical inclusion is the largest and most prestigious Pittsburgh sports banquet of the year. Past honorees have included Mario Lemieux, Arnold Palmer, Terry Bradshaw, Franco Harris, Sidney Crosby, Agnus Berenato, and Evgeni Malkin among others. This year will also include the Lifetime Achievement Award to NFL great Mike Ditka and the Sports Leadership Award to Dr. Freddie Fu of UPMC. Proceeds from all Dapper Dan Charities events go to funding the Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Passion finished the 2011 Season, 8–1. The organization would like to give enormous gratitude to all sponsors, fans, and supporters for a phenomenal season both on and off the field. The winning season provided a cumulative stage for a pioneering year. During 2011 gameplay, the Passion joined the ESPN family of networks, contributed volunteer service to over 200 charitable community events, and grew the largest in-stadium attendance rate, highest television viewership, and widest social media membership in all of women’s football. Without the support of generous sponsors and fans, none of this would be possible. The Passion’s year will continue with ongoing work in the community during every week of the summer, corporate events, off-season training camps, and tryouts.
