Going into tonight’s pivotal Game 3, the Pittsburgh Penguins are deadlocked at one game apiece with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
In Wednesday’s Game 1, Matt Niskanen provided a spark in the second period to give the Pens life. Down 3-2, Niskanen came in to replace Kris Letang and made his presence known, scoring on a power play to tie the game at three goals apiece. He also had an assist in the game.
He came right back out Saturday night and picked up another two points, scoring on a power play in the first period and providing assistance with the first goal of the game. The Pens, though, would fall in overtime, 4-3.
To to say the least, Niskanen has stepped up and will look to keep providing his team support as it pushes through the playoffs.
For his performance on the ice last week, Niskanen is the Pittsburgh Sporting News player of the week.
