Penguins forward Pascal Dupuis is going to miss the next six months due after doctors discovered a blood clot in his lung. The news is devastating for Dupuis, as this will likely mean his 2014 season is likely over, and at 35, could very much put his career in jeopardy.
It will also leave a significant void in the lineup for the Penguins, as Dupuis was having a fine start with six goals and five assists in his first 11 games. Dupuis was able to fill in a variety of roles from top line responsibilities to the penalty kill.
The Penguins were given the day off today, and will have to rebound without Dupuis moving forward starting Friday against the New York Islanders.
The Penguins released a full press release:
“Pascal had a blood clot in his leg that traveled to his lung,” said Dr. Dharmesh Vyas, the Penguins’ team physician. “In medical terms, that is a deep vein thrombosis resulting in a pulmonary embolism. This is the second such incident that we know of for Pascal. The treatment is at least six months of blood thinners, during which time he will not be able to play hockey. Other than that, his condition is stable.”
