The Pittsburgh Penguins bounced back after Friday’s loss, by beating the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2. Christian Ehrhoff scored the game-winning goal late in the third period. It was his first goal as a member of the team.
“Definitely a nice game winner…It was a good response after last night’s loss.” said Ehrhoff on his goal.
The Canes scored the first goal on the power play from Justin Faulk with 16:21 left in the 1st period. Chris Kunitz tied the game up when he scored for the Pens with 16:04 left in the 1st period.
The Pens started the 2nd period with 47 seconds left in the power play. Robert Bortuzzo made up for his penalty by scoring and putting the Pens in the lead 2-1.
Kris Letang was unable to play due to a lower body injury.
“He’s got a minor lower body injury, I don’t expect it’ll be too much he was with us on the trip, but they felt this morning he just wasn’t ready to play.” said Pittsburgh coach Mike Johnston on the injury.
Despite Letang’s absence, Coach Johnston was very pleased by the goals scored by his Letang’s replacements.
“Our defense tonight, the two big goals from Bortuzzo and Ehrhoff, those were key goals obviously in the tight checking game, and I thought the intensity tonight, our battle level was deffinately a lot higher than last night.” said Johnston.
The Penguins were pleased to make a comeback after last night’s loss, and it was a great way to make a strong return. They were motivated by last night’s loss to bring even more heat today.
“When you can kinda get a fresh start the next day,and you know you’re playing the same team, I think you’re pretty motivated,” said Sidney Crosby on the win. “You know given the way things went the night before, so I thought that was the case for us.”
