The Penguins made a pair of minor cuts on Wednesday morning after their second preseason game. General manager Jim Rutherford announced that right-wingers Tom Kostopoulos and Jaden Lindo have been cut from the training camp roster.
Kostopoulos, 36, is the captain of the Penguins American Hockey League affiliate in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and will report to their training camp, which begins later this week. He is under an AHL contract for the 2015-16 season, and as a result, will not have to clear waivers to be sent down.
Lindo was the Penguins sixth-round selection in the 2014 NHL draft, and will be returned to his junior club, the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League. As a 19-year old, Lindo isn’t eligible to play in the AHL. The Penguins will retain Lindo’s rights until 2016.
Kostopoulos played in the Penguins preseason opener in Columbus on Monday, playing 10:48 of ice time and recorded one shot and one hit.
Lindo did not play in either of the team’s first two preseason contests. The Attack opens their 2015-16 season on Friday with on the road against the Kitchener Rangers.
The two cuts leave the Penguins with 51 players in NHL camp. Their third of eight preseason games will be on Thursday against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. That game will be televised on ROOT Sports Pittsburgh at 7:30 p.m.
