The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed forward Dominik Uher to a one-year, two-way contract worth $575,000 annually at the NHL level, according to a statement released by general manager Jim Rutherford on Friday.
Uher, 22, got his first taste of NHL action in 2014-15. The 6-foot, 183-pound winger did not record a point and was a minus-1 in two games.
He skated in 72 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the American Hockey League, which was tied for the team lead. He set career highs in goals (13) and points (26) while skating alongside Carter Rowney and Tom Kuhnhackl on what was a surprisingly productive third line for the AHL Penguins.
Uher also scored two goals and two assists in eight playoff games for Wilkes-Barre. Uher will be in his fourth professional season, having spent most of the past three seasons with Wilkes-Barre. He also played in three games for the Wheeling Nailers in 2012-13.
The Penguins drafted Uher in the fifth round of the 2011 NHL Draft. He played his junior hockey for the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League and is a native of Frydek Mistek, Czech Republic.
Uher should be in line for a larger role in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season. 2015-16 will be the final season that he is exempt from waivers.
With Uher now in the fold, the Penguins have now re-signed all of their restricted free agents from the 2014-15 season.
