Penn State and West Virginia both received votes in the preseason AP college football poll, which was released on Sunday.
The Nittany Lions received 20 points in the voting, while the Mountaineers received just one. Their neighbor to the west overshadowed both schools, as the reigning national champions, the Ohio State Buckeyes, were unanimously voted as the No. 1 team in the country.
Both Penn State and West Virginia will face tough conference schedules this season. The Big Ten has three schools ranked in the top 25, as Michigan State (No. 5) and Wisconsin (No. 20) join Ohio State.
In the Big 12, defending conference co-champions TCU and Baylor are both in the top five, with the Horned Frogs ranked No. 2 and the Bears ranked No. 4. Oklahoma (No. 19) also made the top 25.
