The Penn State Nittany Lions (16-15, 4-14 Big Ten) will open their postseason play against the Nebraska Cornhuskers (13-17, 5-13 Big Ten) in the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday, March 11 at 4:30 p.m. at Chicago’s United Center.
Penn State will start its postseason play riding the momentum of a thrilling last-second win against Minnesota on Sunday. Junior guard DJ Newbill had 31 points and the buzzer-beating three-pointer in the victory.
Nebraska’s last appearance was Sunday evening against Maryland. The Cornhuskers fell to the Terrapins in a 64-61 loss, despite a 26-point effort from Shavon Shields.
The Lions hold the Big Ten’s thirteenth seed; the Huskers have the twelfth seed. Since the Big Ten Tournament began in 1998, Penn State holds a 9-17. This will be Nebraska’s fifth year competing in the tournament since joining the conference in 2011
The two teams met only once this season; Penn State took the victory 56-43 on February 7 from the Bryce Jordan Center in University Park.
This winner of this game will go on to the second round of the Big Ten Tournament and play fifth-seeded Iowa at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
