Yankee Stadium is undoubtedly one of the most iconic sporting venues in the United States, if not the world. Seeing a baseball game here is on the bucket list of just about every baseball fan, but what about a football game?
Penn State and Boston College will square off in the 2014 New Era Pinstripe Bowl at 4:30 p.m. The game promises an entertaining clash between an experienced rushing offense and the nation’s top-ranked rushing defense.

1:00 p.m. – The press are getting situated in the Yankee Stadium pressbox while the Penn State Blue Band practices/warms up.
2:30 p.m. – The AD press conference in the lower levels of Yankee Stadium.
2:55 p.m. – The fans are starting to trickle into the stadium… There’s a lot of Blue and White out there.
4:35 p.m. – KICKOFF!
5:05 p.m. – Touchdown, Penn State! Chris Godwin caught a 72-yard pass from Christian Hackenberg to open up the scoring for the evening. Sam Ficken’s attempt at the extra point is successful, and Penn State takes the 7-0 lead.
5:11 p.m. – Touchdown, Boston College. Jon Hilliman gets a 49-yard run to put BC on the board. Extra point attempt is good, and the score is tied.
5:25 p.m. – The first quarter ends, and Penn State and Boston College are tied at seven apiece.
5:29 p.m. – The second quarter starts off with a Penn State fumble and Boston College recovery.
5:51 p.m. – Neither team is able to accomplish any real offensive action. Punt after punt. The game is still tied 7-7.
5:52 p.m. – Penn State defense has limited Boston College quarterback Tyler Murphy to 11 passing yards and 2-9 completed throws.
5:58 p.m. – Boston College receives a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.
6:00 p.m. – Boston College punts (the eighth of the game), and Penn State sets up for their next play. PSU makes no official gain.
6:13 p.m. – The final few seconds of the second quarter wind down and the teams head into the locker rooms. The game is still tied at 7-7.
6:36 p.m. – The teams take the field to start the second half. Boston College is set to receive Sam Ficken’s kick.
6:46 p.m. – Touchdown, Boston College. QB Murphy had a 19-yard toss to Shakim Phillips. BC went 60 yards in 11 plays to take the lead, 14-7.
7:09 p.m. – Touchdown, Boston College. Murphy rushed 40 yards to pick up the score, and the extra point is good. There was a ruling on the play, but the call stands and BC takes the 21-7 lead.
7:13 p.m. – Geno Lewis catches a lofty pass from Hackenberg and collects a BC facemask penalty. Penn State is in the red zone.
7:16 p.m. – Touchdown, Penn State! Hackenberg manages to evade the defense and tosses a 7-yard pass to Lewis, who is waiting happily in the endzone. Ficken’s kick is good, and Penn State cuts into BC’s lead. 21-7 at the end of the third quarter.
7:20 p.m. – Both teams line up to start the final quarter.
7:25 p.m. – Penn State defense stuffed Boston College and collected a holding penalty to force BC to punt. Penn State starts their drive at their 45-yard line.
7:33 p.m. – Akeel Lynch carried the ball 35 yards, shucking several defenders along the way to the one-yard line.
7:47 p.m. – Touchdown, Penn State! Hackenberg finds Hamilton from 16 yards away for the score. Ficken’s kick is successful, and the game is tied.
8:04 p.m. – Boston College took a three-point lead with 2:10 to play after Mike Knoll netted the field goal.
8:10 p.m. – Sam Ficken ties the game at 24 after a successful 44-yard field goal with 20 seconds remaining in regulation.
8:11 p.m. – Overtime. The regulation period ends and the game is still tied at 24.
OVERTIME UPDATES
8:15 p.m. – Boston College calls tails, the coin toss comes up heads. Penn State elects to defend first.
8:18 p.m. – Touchdown, Boston College. Murphy hit David Dudeck from 21 yards. The extra point is no good, and BC takes a 30-24 lead.
8:20 p.m. – Touchdown, Penn State! They must score the extra point to win.
8:21 p.m. – The extra point is good! Sam Ficken nets the extra point attempt and the Nittany Lions have won their first bowl game since 2010! The final score is 31-30, and we’re calling it a night in Yankee Stadium. Congratulations to the Penn State Nittany Lions for winning the 2014 New Era Pinstripe Bowl!
