The Pittsburgh Pirates are trying to get back on track and they’re on their way, winning three-of-five games this past week. All three wins have something in common: Jordy Mercery hit the ball.
Mercer hit .409 this past week with two home runs, five RBIs and just two strikeouts. He also scored seven runs during the Pirates five games last week.
In the three Pirates’ wins, Mercer combined for eight hits in 14 at-bats for a .571 average, driving in all five of his RBIs and hitting both home runs.
In a 10-3 win over San Diego on Monday, Mercer went 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. In a 4-1 win the next night over San Diego, Mercer went 2-for-4. And in a 15-5 wallop of Milwaukee, Mercer went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs.
For the season, Mercer is hitting .226 with three home runs and 12 RBIs, showing that most of his production came in the past week. That’s big for a Pirates team that’s been struggling as of late. An extra bat in the lineup could help them along nicely.
