Is Josh Harrison in the discussion to represent the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 2014 All-Star Game?
Not likely to be sure, but if you would have even brought up such a notion this time a year ago, most people would have questioned your sanity. Now, it seems the movement to get Harrison to Minneapolis is gaining traction, and he will continue to have many Pirate fans support.
This season, it seems that Harrison can do no wrong, as the super-utility player seems to make his case on a daily basis to lose the utility player tag and simply be known as an everyday player.
An outstanding one, too.
For his efforts, Harrison gets the nod as the Pittsburgh Sporting News Player of the Week.
Harrison put together another terrific week of play, helping the Pirates to series wins against the Tampa Bay Rays and New York Mets. For the week, Harrison had nine hits in 28 at bats (.311) with two doubles and three RBI. One of those RBI came on a game-winning double in extra innings to defeat the Mets on Thursday night.
If you missed it, his amazing Houdini act to avoid being tagged out on a rundown in the ninth inning of Thursday’s game was as miraculous a play as you will ever see. That play alone would have been reason to give this week’s award to Harrison.
