Bastardo had been mentioned in trade talks last season and would help fill the void left when the Pirates traded LHP Justin Wilson to the Yankees for C Francisco Cervelli.
Bastardo went 5-7 with a 3.94 ERA in 2014 while striking out 81 and walking 34 in 64 innings for the Phillies. He has a career 20-18 record with a 3.72 ERA in six seasons — all with Philadelphia — while striking out 324 and walking 125 in 259 innings.
Rodriguez went 6-11 with 4.84 ERA in Double-A last year and was the Arizona Fall League’s All-Prospect team this year.
