The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced their 2014 Player Development staff. The announcement was made by Director of Minor League Operations, Larry Broadway.
Dean Treanor will return to manage Triple-A Indianapolis for a fourth straight season after leading the Indians to an 80-60 record last year and a trip to the International League playoffs.
Carlos Garcia will return to Double-A Altoona after posting a 63-79 record in his first season with the Curve in 2013.
Tom Prince will manage High-A Bradenton in 2014 after spending the 2013 campaign serving as Pittsburgh’s Coordinator of Instruction at the minor league level.
Michael Ryan will return to manage West Virginia after leading the Power to an 82-58 record last year. The Power played in the postseason for the third time in nine years as an affiliate of the Pirates.
Brian Esposito will manage Jamestown in 2014 after serving as a player/coach for the Pirates last year.
Milver Reyes will return to manage the Gulf Coast League Pirates for a second straight season after guiding the Baby Bucs to the playoffs last year in his first year as a manager.
Edgar Varela will manage the Bristol Pirates, Pittsburgh’s new entry in the Appalachian League, after serving as a coach with the Bradenton Marauders last year.
Mendy Lopez will manage Pittsburgh’s team at the Dominican Academy. Lopez played in the big leagues from 1998-2004, including parts of two seasons with the Pirates in 2001 and 2002.
Gera Alvarez will oversee the academy while Jonathan Prieto, Dan Urbina, Jairo Cuevas, Johe Acosta, Cesilio Beltre and Osiel Flores will serve as coaches in the Dominican Republic.

For the third straight season Brad Fischer will serve the Pirates as their Minor League Field Coordinator. Dave Turgeon, who was the manager at Jamestown in 2013, is now the Assistant Field Coordinator.
Kimera Bartee (Outfield/Baserunning), Gary Green (Infield) and Scott Mitchell (Pitching) are returning to their same Coordinator positions, as well as Woody Huyke (Senior Advisor to Player Development) and Luis Silverio (Senior Advisor to Latin American Operations).
Frank Kremblas, who managed the Bradenton Marauders last season, will once again serve as a Special Assistant to Player Development, a position he held in 2012. Larry Sutton will be the Hitting Coordinator in 2014 after working the last two seasons as the Dominican Field Coordinator.
Carl Randolph returns for his 13th season as the club’s Athletic Training Coordinator and Carlo Alvarez will be joining the organization at its Sport Performance Coordinator.
Rounding out the athletic performance team will be Kiyoshi Momose (Latin American Strength and Conditioning Coordinator), Joe Hughes (Athletic Development Coordinator) and Wes Eberlin (Rehab Coordinator).
In addition, Bernie Holliday returns for his fifth season as the Director of Mental Conditioning. Tyson Holt begins his third year as the Mental Conditioning Coordinator and Hector Morales joins the staff as the Assistant Coordinator of Mental Conditioning.
