With the Major League Baseball roster limit expanding from 25 to 40 on Tuesday, the Pittsburgh Pirates have called up six players from Triple-A Indianapolis to add to their bench and bullpen.
The Pirates have recalled outfielder Jaff Decker, left-handed relief pitcher Bobby LaFromboise and catcher Elias Diaz, and selected the contracts of outfielder Travis Snider and Radhames Liz.
In addition, the Pirates have reinstated right-handed relief pitcher Rob Scahill from the disabled list.
To make room for Snider and Liz on the 40-man roster, the Pirates placed minor-league starting pitcher Casey Sadler on the 60-day disabled list. Sadler is out for the season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.
Shortstop Pedro Florimon, who was reportedly among those called up today, was not. Neither was starting pitcher Vance Worley, who is scheduled to start tonight for Indy. The Pirates can continue to add to their roster throughout the regular season.
The Pirates also announced their 2015 participants in the Arizona Fall League. Left-handed pitchers Steven Brault and Cody Dickson, right-handed pitchers Tyler Eppler and Brett McKinney, catcher Reese McGuire, utility man Adam Frazier and outfielder Austin Meadows will play for the Glendale Desert Dogs.
Altoona Curve (Double-A) pitching coach Justin Meccage will be on the team’s coaching staff.
