Day two of the annual MLB Winter Meetings in Orlando, Florida have concluded and the Pirates still have not made any moves, but they are trying to put some things into motion. Today was also the day that the GIBBY awards were handed out and a few are coming back to the steel city.
- Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Pirates have resumed talks with free agent 1B, James Loney.

- Yesterday, news broke that the Pirates were looking into P Bronson Arroyo and met with his agent. Today, it looks like Arroyo won’t be in Pittsburgh for the upcoming season as reported by C. Trent Rosecrans of the the Cincinnati Enquirer.

- There could be news about A.J. Burnett, though. Travis Sawchik of the Trib is reporting Burnett’s agent is in Orlando.
- Jon Heyman of CBS later reported that Burnett is still “Torn” about his decision.

- Jon Morosi reports that Justin Wilson could be on the trading block and the Pirates are willing to listen to offers.

With Wilson’s track record, a trade for him could land the Pirates a valuable piece that they are searching for.
- In his daily Q&A with the media in Orlando, Neal Huntington told Bill Brink of the PG that the Bucs are willing to land a free agent for a 3+ year contract.
Huntington said #Pirates are willing to go 3-plus yrs for a free agent. “If we find the right player and the right deal, absolutely.”

- Neal Huntington told reporters that there is a small chance that Gregory Polanco makes the Pirates opening day roster. The OF has spent most of his time playing CF and will work at all three positions in AAA Indianapolis before coming up in RF for the open spot.
“It’s going to be awfully hard for us to see Gregory Polanco ready based on what we saw last year, said Huntington. “Based on what we saw this winter, more-so than what we see next spring,”
- MLB.com’s GIBBY (Greatness In Baseball Yearly) awards were handed out today as the Pirates won in three categories as voted on by the fans
– Francisco Liriano ousted Mariano Rivera for Comeback Player of the Year (His third victory in this category this year).
– Mark Melancon was named the Setup Player of the Year.
– The Pirates magical run to break the 20 year streak and reach their first playoff appearance since 1992 was named the Storyline of the Year with over 10 million votes by the fans.
Pirates manager, Clint Hurdle was present at the meetings to accept the awards for the team and two honorees.
