The Pirates offense continued to dominate Cardinals pitching as they put up 7 runs in a 7 – 1 victory on Saturday night.
They put two up in the second inning with two out when A.J. Burnett helped himself with an RBI single scoring Russell Martin. They would get a second run one batter later when Jose Tabata scored Burnett after a wild pitch.
They would add five more in the third when Marlon Byrd continued his hot start as a Pirate with an RBI single to score Pedro Alvarez. Russell Martin would come up two batters later and hit a Lance Lynn fastball into the right-center field seats. Neil Walker would end the scoring for the inning with a triple to score Jose Tabata.
Burnett followed up Francisco Liriano’s dominant start with one of his own as he only allowed one run over seven innings, a Carlos Beltran RBI single in the third. He would only allow four hits total while striking out four. Vin Mazzaro would pitch the final two innings of shutout ball to finish the game off.
Final Score: Pirates 7, Cardinals 1

The Pirates will look for a 3-game sweep of the Cardinals and a 2-game lead in the NL Central tomorrow at 1:35.
