The Pittsburgh Pirates have come to terms on a contract with first-round draft pick Ke’Bryan Hayes, according to a report by CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman.

Hayes, a third baseman, was selected by the Pirates with the 32nd overall pick in the 2015 MLB Draft. Hayes was the second player drafted by the Pirates after shortstop Kevin Newman was taken with the 19th overall selection. The Pirates were awarded the 32nd pick as compensation for losing catcther Russell Martin to free agency.
According to Heyman, the contract includes a $1.855 million signing bonus, which is exactly the slot bonus for that pick. Under the current MLB CBA, each draft pick is assigned a cash value and those amounts are added together to come up with a total figure each club can spend on the draft. Money spent over the slot amount on one pick will have to be saved elsewhere.
Hayes, who was the only high school player taken by the Bucs in the first ten rounds of the draft, graduated from Concordia Lutheran High School in his hometown of Tomball, Texas. He is the son of former MLB third basemen Charlie Hayes.
