The Pirates have made their first call-ups since rosters expanded to 40 at midnight last night.
Catcher Tony Sanchez and pitchers Gerrit Cole and Stolmy Pimentel were officially called up.
Cole, who had been optioned to Low-A Bristol after his previous start to allow another bench player, will make his scheduled start this afternoon in St. Louis.
Sanchez batted .235/.422/.758 in 81 games with AAA Indianapolis this season while hitting 17 doubles,11 home runs and 45 RBI.
Pimentel, who was on the 15-Day DL, was reinstated from his rehab with AA Altoona where he went 6 1/3 innings in five appearances allowing six hits and five walks while allowing one earned run and striking out six.
The Pirates also selected the contract of LHP John Holdzkom and have optioned him to AAA Indianapolis. The move was made last night making Holdzkom postseason eligible.
To make room for Holdzkom on the 40-man roster, the Pirates DFA’d 1B Chris McGuiness.
