The Pirates have made some roster moves in the past 24 hours after placing Starling Marte on the bereavement list.
Last night, Marte was placed on the bereavement list due to the death of his mother-in-law. Matt Hague was promoted from AAA Indianapolis to take his place.
Hague –who grounded into a double play in his only plate appearance in last night’s game in St. Louis — was hitting .267 (76-for-285) with 13 doubles, one triple, 13 home runs and an International League-leading 59 RBI in 80 games with Indianapolis at the time of his promotion.
Duke Welker was DFA’d to make room for Hague on the 40-man roster.
This afternoon, the team made another move sending Brandon Cumpton — who didn’t fare well in a spot start last night — back to AAA Indianapolis.
Jaff Decker has been called up to take Cumpton’s place on the active roster.
Decker was hitting .266 (63-for-237) with 21 doubles, a triple, four home runs, 29 RBI and 34 runs scored in 71 games with Indianapolis at the time of his promotion to the big leagues. In his first nine games this month, he hit .344 (11-for-32) with four doubles, a triple, two RBI and six runs scored.
