The Pittsburgh Pirates held its Black-Gold intrasquad game Monday afternoon and it was the gold team which won by a 4-3 score.
This game served as the first time many fans have seen Jameson Taillon on a mound since he underwent Tommy John surgery in April of 2014. His outing was a mixed bag as he faced nine batters, striking out three of them, but also allowing a run.
Taillon’s mound opponent in this game was Tyler Glasnow, the Pirates top prospect pitcher who many fans wanted to see as a September call-up last season. His outing was slightly shorter than Taillon’s as he faced seven batters allowing two runs while also striking out two batters.
Trevor Williams, who is best known as compensation from the Miami Marlins for the acquisition of Jim Benedict threw two perfect innings to pick up the win.
Chad Kuhl suffered the loss for Team Black.
Recent signee Matt Joyce played left field for Team Black and went 1-for-2 at the plate, with the hit being an RBI double.
Spring Training play officially begins Tuesday as the Pirates face the Detroit Tigers.
Left-handed pitcher Kyle Lobstein, a former Tiger, will earn the start and his mound opponent will be Matt Boyd. Wilfredo Boscan, Neftali Feliz, Curtis Partsch, Rob Scahill and Trey Haley, all are expected to pitch for the Pirates in this game. The game can be heard on 93.7 the Fan.
