Its been quite a start for Pirate of the Week, Gregory Polanco.
After months of speculation, Pirates super prospect Polanco received the news everyone was waiting for on Monday.
Polanco would officially be a Pittsburgh Pirate.
After some ups and downs in his debut Tuesday night against the Chicago Cubs, its fair to say Polanco is finding the stroke that had him rated as not only the top prospect in the Pirates system, but in all of baseball.
Going into Sunday’s series finale against the Miami Marlins, Polanco has 10 hits in 26 at bats for a .385 average. Polanco also added six runs and five RBI’s during that span. Polanco’s week was highlighted by a five hit performance that included a game winning two-run homer in an 8-6 13 inning victory over the Marlins on Friday night.
The mere fact that Polanco gets the nod for PSN Player of the Week is quite a statement, considering the unbelievable play of fellow outfielders Starling Marte and Andrew McCutchen. Marte is batting .500 (14 for 28) with a HR and four RBI in his past six games. While McCutchen has 12 hits in his last 25 at bats, adding four HR’s and 12 RBI.
In the past five games, the trio has gone 31 for 71 (.437) with 5 HR, 18 RBI, and 14 runs.
