The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed left-handed pitcher Clayton Richard to a minor league contract with an invitation to Major League spring training.
Since making it to the Majors in 2008, Richard has posted a career record of 46-47 with a 4.33 ERA in 147 appearances (129 starts) with 480 strikeouts and 263 walks in 773.1 innings.
Last year, he went a combined 1-2 with a 5.91 ERA (21.1ip/14er) in four starts last year between Double-A Mobile and Triple-A Reno in the Diamondbacks minor league system.
Richard is yet another reclamation candidate for pitching coach Ray Searage, who turned around the careers of Vance Worley, Francisco Liriano, Edinson Volquez and others.
