The Pittsburgh Pirates obviously believe that Josh Harrison’s 2014 season wasn’t a fluke, as the two parties have agreed to a long-term contract that will keep Harrison in Pittsburgh through 2018, with club options for the 2019 and 2020 seasons.
“We are pleased to make this commitment to Josh and that Josh has made this commitment to the Pirates,” said Pirates general manager Neal Huntington in a team-issued press release. “Josh is a very talented, well-rounded player who helps our team win games offensively, defensively and on the bases. Additionally, he is an outstanding person who leads by example with his energy, grit and positivity. We look forward to continuing to work with Josh to achieve our shared goals.”
Harrison set career highs offensively last season, which was his second full season in the Major Leagues. The 27-year-old Harrison hit .315 last season, which was second among all National League hitters. Harrison had a .347 OBP and a .490 slugging percentage last season, as he hit 13 homers, 38 doubles and had 52 RBI, while swiping 18 bags on the bases.
Fox’s Ken Rosenthal broke the details of the contract:
