The Pitt Panthers men’s basketball team and the rest of the Atlantic Coast Conference announced their 2015-16 schedules today.
Jamie Dixon’s squad will start the regular season with a trip to Okinawa, Japan to play Gonzaga in the Armed Forces Classic on November 13. That contest will be broadcast on ESPN as the first of 10 nationally televised contests for the Panthers.
The next big game on the slate for Pitt will be at the Pedersen Events Center for a showdown with Purdue on December 1 as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.
The 84th annual City Game will be held on December 4th at Consol Energy Center. The Panthers have beaten their cross-town rivals, the Duquesne Dukes, in 14 consecutive games. The game has been held at Consol Energy Center since 2010.
The Panthers will travel to New York for a date with Atlantic-10 foe Davidson at Madison Square Garden as part of the Gotham Classic.
ACC play will start when the Jim Boeheim and the Syracuse Orange visit Pittsburgh on December 30.
Pitt plays Syracuse, Louisville, Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech twice, and all other conference opponents once.
The Panthers will be tested on the road early in conference play, as they will visit Notre Dame on January 9, followed five days later by a visit to Louisville. The biggest road game of the season will be on Valentine’s Day, as the Panthers will play North Carolina in the historic Cameron Indoor Stadium.
That will be the Panthers only trip to Tobacco Road, as NC State (Jan. 19), Wake Forest (Feb. 16) and Duke (Feb 28.) will all come to Pittsburgh in 2016. The Blue Devils will be the final home opponent for Pitt, before finishing the season with road contests at Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.
The 2016 ACC Tournament will take place from March 8-12 at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C.
