After two insanely productive seasons at Lincoln Park High School, Pitt recruit Maverick Rowan was potentially on his way to breaking the WPIAL scoring record.
He no longer will have that opportunity.
Rowan’s family announced that he will transfer to Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. As their family is moving to Florida.
The 6’7” guard scored 1,482 points with 142 three-pointers at Lincoln Park and averaged 26.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 2.7 steals last season. Had he stayed in the WPIAL, the scoring record of 2,838 was definitely within reach.
Rowan, the No. 43 player in the country in the class of 2016 as ranked by both Scout and Rival, will be moving from the played in the smallest classification in the WPIAL to Class 5A in Florida. Cardinal Gibbons was 24-6 last year and features other Division I prospects.
Rowan’s father Ron, who was an assistant coach at Lincoln Park will also be an assistant at Cardinal Gibbons.
Now Pitt fans have to wonder if the sharp shooter will stay committed to Pitt or reopen his recruiting.
If that happens it will be a big loss for Jamie Dixon and his staff.
Rowan accepted a scholarship from Pitt before his sophomore year, but with more eyes on him now in Florida, Pitt fans have to keep their fingers crossed that he will honor his commitment.
Rowan along with Mustapha Heron, gives Dixon perhaps the most talented recruiting class in his career in 2016, so Rowan moving certainly is something to watch.
