The University of Pittsburgh men’s basketball team knows how to snap a three-game winning in style. The team, who is now 18-7 with the win, kept the excitement high during the whole game. Both teams kept the score close the majority of the game, but Pitt pulled away with the 101-96 double-overtime victory.
The score differential was very similar. Pitt outscored Wake Forest 35 to 33 in the first half. The second half went to Wake Forest, outscoring the Panthers 39 to 37. However, the Demon Deacons couldn’t outscore the Panthers during two rounds of overtime as the Panthers scored 29 points to Wake Forest’s 24 points.
Pitt’s win gives it a big confidence boost before heading into its Feb. 20 game against Syracuse University. The last time Pitt met Syracuse, the Panthers took home the victory 72-61. However, that was back in December, and both teams have certainly changed.
The Panthers will hope to keep their winning going, and not go back to a losing streak. With the win against Wake Forest, the Panthers are now 7-6, and in 2nd place, in the ACC.
Jamel Artis’ big night
Artis’ win against Wake Forest became so much sweeter whenever he became the newest member of the Pitt Panthers 1,000-point club. Artis had 19 points, seven rebounds and one assist.
Artis, a junior forward, also had a perfect free-throw count, making all six of his foul shots.
Chris Jones’ career night
Chris Jones, a red-shirt junior, had the best night of his career making a career-high 23-points. Jones also played a key role with his seven rebounds and four assists.
However, there was one number that didn’t go Jones’ way. Jones totaled five personal fouls against Wake Forest. Jones fouled out of the game in double overtime.
Fouls, fouls and more fouls
Both Wake Forest and Pittsburgh had a high number of fouls. Wake Forest led the foul count with 28 while Pitt followed right behind with 23 fouls.
Bryant Crawford led Wake Forest with five fouls, while Jones led the Panthers with five also.
