Despite their worst loss of the season Saturday at Marquette, Jamie Dixon’s Pitt Panthers remain one of the Top 20 teams in the nation.
Pitt (20-6, 8-5) dropped from No. 16 down to No. 20 in the latest AP Poll, headed by the Indiana Hoosiers at the top spot for the second consecutive week.
The Panthers are among six Big East Conference teams in the latest AP Poll, as Pitt is joined by No. 8 Syracuse, No. 10 Louisville, No. 11 Georgetown, No. 17 Marquette and No. 25 Notre Dame.
Rounding out the Top 10 is: No. 2 Miami, No. 3 Gonzaga, No. 4 Michigan State, No. 5 Florida, No. 6 Duke, No. 7 Michigan and No. 9 Kansas.
To stay in the rankings and earn a top four seed in the NCAA Tournament, the Panthers must close the season strong. Pitt has five games remaining before the Big East regular season comes to a close. Three of the five are at the Petersen Events Center.
After the Marquette loss, the Panthers have a quick turnaround as they have their toughest remaining regular season game Monday night at home against Notre Dame.
