Before Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi coaches his first game on the Panthers sidelines, he already is trying to make an impact on the future of the program.
He did that over the weekend by landing his first recruit for the Class of 2016 in Ohio defensive back Tony Butler.
Butler is a three-star recruit out of Lakewood St. Edward and is one of the top prospects in the state of Ohio. He stands 6’2″ and weighs 200 pounds and can play both corner and safety. Butler played a big role as a junior in St. Edwards state championship team.
The newest Panthers recruit had a lot to say.
He told Scout:
“I committed to Pittsburgh today (Saturday) because it just felt like home to me,” Butler told Scout. “I was at the school all day with my mom, and it was great. I committed to Coach (Pat) Narduzzi. We talked about things, and it just felt like he was the most honest coach I’ve met during this process.”
“After watching them scrimmage, I could see how much I love their defense, because it’s similar to what we run at St. Ed’s,” he added. “He’s bringing the Michigan State defensive style to Pitt, and I want to be a part of it. My mom was with me, and she’s very happy with my decision.”
Here’s a look at some highlights from Butler’s junior season.
