Not much has gone wrong for the Pitt panthers in their impressive 2-0 start to the season.
That was until today when it was announced that starting center Artie Rowell was lost for the season with a torn ACL.
Rowell, a junior, has started 15 games in row and made all the line calls for the Panthers. He was hurt Friday in the victory against Boston College and was replaced by sophomore Gabe Roberts.
Chryst didn’t sound optimistic after the game about Rowell, who left on crutches and the news that they will be without Rowell is tough to take.
“I know I speak for our entire team in saying we are very disappointed for Artie,” Pitt coach Paul Chryst said in a release. “I’m certain he will attack his rehabilitation with everything he has to get himself ready for next season.”
Rowell was a big part of the Pitt offensive line that returned four starters from last season and got off to a great start in wins over Delaware and Boston College.
Pitt was especially dominant on the ground in the two wins, running for a combined 712 yards in the two games. Their 712 rushing yards ranks third in the nation and is tops among Power 5 schools.
It will be interesting to see if they can have similar success without Rowell in the middle.
Pitt plays at FIU at noon Saturday.
