Pitt head coach Paul Chryst announced the Panthers three captains for the 2014 season.
The team held a vote and senior tackle T.J. Clemmings is the captain on offense, senior safety Ray Vinopal on defense and junior Nicholas Grigsby was named the captain on special teams.
Overall 19 different players received votes from the Panthers’ players.
Clemmings is in the second full year of a position change from defensive line to offensive tackle and has come a long way over the course of the past couple years. He will be counted on to provide some stability to a Pitt offensive line that hasn’t performed very well over the past few years.
A transfer from Michigan, Vinopal was an honorable mention All-ACC selection last year in his second full season at Pitt. He was especially big in a win against Notre Dame last year with two interceptions and a forced fumble. Vinopal was also an ACC All-Academic Football Team last season.
As for Grigsby, the junior really started to make a name for himself on special teams last season and big things are expected from him this year in that role as well.
The Panthers wrap up training camp this week and begin the regular season August 30 at Heinz Field when they play host to Delaware.
