University of Pittsburgh head football coach Pat Narduzzi has suspended junior wide receiver Tyler Boyd and sophomore defensive lineman Rori Blair for the team’s season opener on September 5 against Youngstown State.
The one-game suspensions are a result of separate off-the-field incidents this offseason.
“In addition to their game suspensions, Tyler and Rori have been, and will continue to be, subject to internal discipline and accountability,” Narduzzi said in a press release. “The situations were very disappointing and both young men have expressed their regret. Our expectation is that each of them, as well as our entire team, will learn from their mistakes and be better for it moving forward.”
Boyd was arrested for driving under the influence during a traffic stop in Jefferson Hills in June. He will serve one year of probation in addition to fines, court costs and other punishments associated with his acceptance into the ARD program for first-time nonviolent offenders.
Blair was charged with driving under the influence of marijuana after being clocked at 117 mph in a work zone on the Parkway East by Pennsylvania State Police. The incident occurred in March, but charges were not filed until July. Blair will have a preliminary hearing on August 25 in front of Magistrate Jeffrey Manning.
Both players are local products. Boyd is from Clairton and Blair is from Upper St. Clair. The Panthers will open training camp on August 10.
