There has been one common question asked among Pitt Panthers fans for a while now.
“When will we go back to the script logo?”
Finally Pitt fans have an answer.
New athletic director Scott Barnes has been flooded with calls and letters about the script logo since taking over the job and he made the official announcement that the Panthers will indeed be returning to their old script logo.
The plan is to have all of Pitt’s athletic teams in new script uniforms for the 2016-17 school year. The school’s colors will remain navy blue and gold.
“When that Pitt script is showing, we want people all over the country to understand that’s the University of Pittsburgh,” Barnes told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The Pitt football team saw the script logo return to their helmets last October, but all of the apparel for the other teams featured the block lettered logo.
Pitt will continue to use the block logo for the remainder of the school year, but new apparel is due this spring and the change will be made. Pitt football coach Pat Narduzzi had already said that the team will undergo a complete uniform overhaul for the 2016 season, which will include the complete switch to script.
Barnes did note that there will be some “special things” coming in terms of the new uniforms, but kept it as a surprise for now.
