The Pitt Panthers have had at least one player honored by the ACC every week this season.
After a big road victory at Georgia Tech to improve the Panthers to 5-1 on the season and vault them into the Top 25, that streak continued this week.
Naturally it was the hero of Saturday’s game, placekicker Chris Blewitt who earned the honor, being named Atlantic Coast Conference’s Specialist of the Week.
Blewitt converted all four of his extra point attempts and drilled a Pitt school record 56-yard field goal with just over a minute left to give Pitt a 31-28 victory, improving the Panthers to 3-0 in ACC play on the season.
Blewitt’s 56-yarder tied for the longest game-winning field goal in ACC history and it is the sixth longest ACC field goal overall.
Not to be overlooked in Saturday’s win, four of Blewitt’s six kickoff attempts went for touchbacks.
In his Pitt career, Blewitt has 219 career points, ranking fifth in overall scoring.
It is the second ACC Specialist of the Week honor of Blewitt’s career, previously winning the honor in 2014 for his performance at Boston College.
In total, nine different Pitt players have earned ACC weekly honors this season.
No. 25 Pitt will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Syracuse.
