Not much has gone well for the Pitt Panthers this season, but for offensive tackle T.J. Clemmings, the 2014 season has been an eye opener for NFL scouts.
Clemmings, who was voted a captain before the season began, has seen his stock soar as a draft prospect and on Monday accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl.
The senior is a three-time ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week this season and some project him early on as high as a second-round draft pick in this springs draft.
Clemmings came to Pitt as a defensive lineman and switched to the offensive side of the ball in 2013. The transition has been very smooth as he has turned into a dominant tackle and is one of the many reasons that Pitt tailback James Conner has been able to produce an outstanding 2014 campaign running the football.
ESPN draft analyst Todd McShay recently said that Clemmings is the most improved player in a one year span that he has ever seen.
This will be the second year in a row that a Pitt player could see his draft stock soar during the Senior Bowl. Prior to becoming a first-round NFL draft selection by the St. Louis Rams, Pitt defensive tackle Aaron Donald was named the Most Outstanding Overall Player during 2014 Senior Bowl practices.
The Senior Bowl is a yearly showcase for the country’s top pro prospects and will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 in Mobile, Alabama.
