Coming out of Clairton High School, the future looked promising at Pitt for cornerback Titus Howard.
That future took a hit when Howard was suspended for all of last season and now under new head coach Pat Narduzzi, Howard’s future as a Panther is no more.
Howard has been officially dismissed from the program for a violation of team rules, as announced by school officials on Monday.
As a true freshman in 2013, Howard played in 11 games, starting two, recording 21 tackles.
He was suspended all of last season by former Pitt head coach Paul Chryst for disciplinary reasons.
Howard was expected to challenge for a starting job this summer and his departure, like it did last season, leaves Pitt very thin at corner.
Lafayette Pitts will return for his senior season and freshmen Avonte Maddox and Phillipie Motley will also be back. Maddox started six games last season, and Motley was redshirted.
In addition, Narduzzi brought in three recruits, led by four-star prospect Jordan Whitehead of Central Valley; Malik Henderson and Dane Jackson.
If needed, Reggie Mitchell could shift back to corner, where he started last season before shifting to safety for the final five games of the season.
In other roster news, quarterback Trey Anderson made it official that he won’t be back to use his fifth year of eligibility. It looks like Anderson will transfer closer to home but will give up football.
Defensive end Devin Cook, a Beaver Falls native, will also not use his fifth year of eligibility, but instead will transfer to FCS Richmond.
Defensive end Luke Maclean and offensive lineman Connor Hayes also informed the coaching staff that they will transfer.
