While all the attention in June’s NBA Draft will go to freshman center Steven Adams, another former Panther is still holding onto dreams of playing in the NBA.
Former Pitt point guard Tray Woodall is scheduled to work out for the Washington Wizards on Tuesday, his first workout with any NBA team.
Woodall is coming off a highly productive career with the Panthers where he played in 139 games in five seasons, including 10 as a freshman in what would be a redshirt season due to injury. He finished with 1,108 points, 580 assists and 337 assists in those 139 games.
Currently Woodall doesn’t appear in any mock drafts and is ranked as the 78th best college senior by DraftExpress. However getting the opportunity to open some eyes for NBA teams could potentially raise his stock enough to where he could sneak into the second round.
The worst case scenario is that he could open up enough eyes to get an invite to summer league and earn an invite to some team’s training camp next fall.
“I’m just happy for the opportunity, I wanna make the best of it,” Woodall told SNY.tv via text Saturday evening. “All it takes is for one team to love me. I know I can play at this level.”
He was a joy to get to watch as a Panther. Hopefully he will get the opportunity to make an NBA team in the future.
If it’s a matter of having to work hard to get there, then I wouldn’t bet against him, even if he has to take the long way to get there.
