A Pittsburgh Penguins Prospect Recap replaces the weekly Three Up, Three Down for the week of Dec. 14–20 due to a lack of NCAA games last week and a relatively crazy week for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
MAJOR JUNIOR
In OHL, Jaden Lindo went without a point in a pair of games with the Owen Sound Attack, but recorded a pair of assists in a 4-3 win over the London Knights on Saturday.
Nikita Pavlychev recorded a single assist on Friday night for the Des Moines Buccaneers in the USHL and went scoreless on Saturday.
NCAA
Only Jake Guentzel and Jeff Taylor played over the weekend among the Penguins NCAA prospects.
Guentzel recorded a pair of assists on Sunday to help the University of Nebraska-Omaha beat Arizona State University 6-1 after missing the scoresheet in a 3-1 win on Saturday. Taylor went without a point in a 3-2 overtime win with Union College over the University of Vermont on Sunday.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins
Despite a roster plagued by call ups and injury, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins still managed two wins and points in all three games played last week. Rookie goaltender Tristan Jarry stopped 17 shots in a 3-0 shutout win over the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Wednesday night with blueliner Clark Seymour, appearing with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for only the second time in 2015–16, opening the scoring and forwards Bryan Rust and Jean-Sebastien Dea adding goals. Jarry finished the game, but suffered a lower-body injury, forcing ECHL call up Brian Foster into a temporary starting role with fellow ECHL call up and rookie Casey DeSmith backing up.
Last appearing in the AHL in 2012–13 and playing last season in Norway, Foster finished with 27 saves on Friday night against the Toronto Marlies, but gave up three goals in the third period and lost in the shootout. Seymour opened the scoring again with forward Scott Wilson and defender Derrick Pouliot adding goals. The next night, Foster turned away 30 shots in a 3-0 shutout win over the Syracuse Crunch with forwards Tom Kostopoulos and Tom Kuhnhackl sandwiching goals between a Will O’Neill tally.
Despite losing starting goaltender Matt Murray and top scorers Conor Sheary and Scott Wilson to call up, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton maintained the Atlantic Division lead and second place in the Eastern Conference. The team expects Jarry to return to the lineup as early as the weekend and resume the starting role.
