A day after announcing changes to PNC Park, the Pittsburgh Pirates did the same with McKechnie Field unveiling a new home clubhouse.
The Pirates’ 22,500 foot clubhouse will include: a strength and conditioning room, athletic training room, hydrotherapy, equipment room, wooden lockers for both players and coaches, a kitchen and dining hall, a conference room for the team’s coaches to meet, offices and a press conference room.
The clubhouse itself has multiple intentions with one being a compliment to the already present Mediterranean forms and brick layer columns. It will be located on the stadium’s right field corner and thus increases the size of the first base concourse. The weight room includes an expanded agility field as well as a batting cage building. This all can be seen from the outfield boardwalk providing fans with a closer look inside the team.
This announcement is the second concerning McKechnie Field in 2015, as the team already had announced an upgrade to the team’s performance center which is 12,240 square feet. The Pirates will use these facilities during Spring Training and during the season it will be used for athletic and rehab programs.
Fawley Bryant completed this project as well as improvements made to McKechnie Field in 2013. The Pirates fully funded the construction of both buildings and cited their commitment to the City of Bradenton and Manatee County.
The Pirates will open their Spring Training schedule Tuesday, March 3 against the Toronto Blue Jays before the team’s meet at McKechnie Field a day later. This is the 46th season the Pirates have called McKechnie Field their Spring Training home.
