The Pittsburgh Power announced two big splash moves in free agency tonight by being assigned defensive lineman Joe Sykes and wide receiver Joe Hills. They also announced the extension of one of their exclusive free agents James Bryant. The team also exercised rookie options on James Shaw, Tyrone Goard, Roosevelt Holiday, Latarrius Thomas, Keith Newell and Maurice Fountain
Sykes, the 2012 Riddell Defensive Player of the Year and a two-time all arena selection, has 30.5 sacks over his four year career. He will certainly help make the Power pass rush better and his experience in the league will help an already strong Power defense get better.
Hills, a 2013 1st team all-arena selection, is a four year AFL veteran with 286 career receptions for 3903 yards and 94 touchdowns. His size (6’4” 210 pounds) and playmaking ability will give the Power a strong weapon to use on offense.
Bryant, the team’s starting mac linebacker last season, is coming off a solid campaign where he had five sacks and three forced fumbles. He’s a fan favorite because of the Hannibal Lecter mask he wears during pregame warmups so his return should make a lot of Power fans happy.
The Power finished the regular season 15-3 last year and were eliminated by the Orlando Predators in the first round of the playoffs.
