With their playoffs hopes dashed, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds are focused on ending their season on a high note. For the Riverhounds, that’s all about ending the season without losing a game.
After a scoreless draw Wednesday against FC Cincinnati, the Riverhounds continued their draw streak with a 1-1 draw against the Bethlehem Steel FC.
The Riverhounds got on the board first, as striker Corey Hertzog netted his 13th goal of the season in the 9’ minute. Hertzog’s goal came off a penalty kick; captain Kevin Kerr was fouled inside the Steel FC box, setting Hertzog’s penalty up against goalkeeper Matt Jones.
The Riverhounds kept a clean sheet up until the 68’ minute, when the Steel FC earned a point with a goal from James Chambers, which was assisted by Corey Burke.
In the battle of the goalkeepers, Riverhounds goalkeeper Zack Steffen made six saves compared to Jones’ four saves. In the team total of shots taken, the Riverhounds took 10 shots, with five being on goal, while the Steel FC took 11 shots, with seven being on goal.
The Riverhounds also had another positive to come from the rather tame match. Neither team recorded any yellow or red cards.
