The Pittsburgh Riverhounds made a big roster move Friday afternoon, adding former Riverhound Danny Earls back on the roster.
Last season, Earls was the captain of the team. The Irish-born midfielder first started his campaign with the Riverhounds in 2014, and didn’t re-sign with the team prior to this season. Earls had 52 appearances with the Riverhounds, scored four goals and produced nine assists.
Earls will be joining with a familiar face on the pitch. He and current Riverhounds captain Kevin Kerr, a native of Scotland, played together during Earls’ career in Pittsburgh — Kerr has been with the team since 2013.
Since Earls was signed by the team less than 24 hours ago, it’s doubtful that he will be in the tonight’s starting lineup during the team’s match against the Charleston Battery at Highmark Stadium. (However, making his return to the pitch for Pittsburgh is Rob Vincent, who is on a one-game loan from MLS club D.C. United.)
The Riverhounds could possibly have Earls for their match against the Richmond Kickers next week, but it all depends on the processing of Earls’ paperwork by the USL.
To make room for Earls, the team released first-year defender Caleb Postlewait.
