The Pirates announced the player-to-be-named in the Travis Snider trade with Baltimore.
The team acquired 22-year-old LHP Steven Brault from the Orioles High-A Frederick organization.
Brault, an 11th round pick by the Orioles in the 2013 Amateur Draft, posted an 11-8 record with a 2.77 ERA and a 0.984 WHIP in 24 starts (25 games) in 2014 between Class-A Delmarva and High-A Frederick.
Brault’s fastball sits 90-92 mph with some sink to it. He also has a decent slider and change up that will improve with time.
The full trade is now complete with the Pirates sending Travis Snider to the Orioles in exchange for Brault and Stephen Tarpley.
Tarpley was the Orioles’ third-round pick in the same 2013 Amateur Draft. The 21-year old played his second professional season at Low-A Abedereen in the Orioles system in 2014. In 13 appearances (12 starts), he was 3-5 with a 3.68 ERA. He pitched 66 innings and had 60 strikeouts and 24 walks.
Both should start the 2015 season in High-A Bradenton.
