As PSAC West teams squared off against each other, plenty of upsets came throughout the league.
Seton Hill shocked both Slippery Rock and Cal U during last week’s action. The Griffins beat The Rock, 88-82, and then beat the Vulcans, 63-59. In the same week, Cal suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season. Gannon also lost to Pitt-Johnstown, 65-57, just the second PSAC loss for Gannon this season. IUP also fell during the week. The Crimson Hawks defeated Edinboro before losing to Slippery Rock, 75-71.
The week shook up the standings just a bit as IUP fell from second to third after Mercyhurst went 2-0. Gannon still sits at the top while the Lakers moved into second ahead of IUP. From there the standings go Slippery Rock, Cal, Pitt-Johnstown, Seton Hill, Edinboro, Clarion. IUP also dropped to No. 25 in this week’s NABC coaches poll.
Both Gannon and Mercyhurst have won 10 league games.
Performance of the Week:
– Seton Hill’s David Windsor scored a career-high 33 points in a double overtime win over Slippery Rock. The senior guard also dished out 10 assists, pulled down four rebounds and had a steal in the win. Sixteen of his 33 points came in the two overtime periods to lead Seton Hill to the win. The very next game he dropped 27 against Cal. He was named the PSAC West Player of the Week.
Other notables:
– Edinboro’s Jaymon Mason averaged 15.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists to help Edinboro go 1-1. He was named the PSAC West Freshman of the Week.
– Gannon’s Adam Blazek moved into the school’s top 10 in assists and top 15 in scoring this week. He has 307 assists and 1,336 points for his career.
– Pitt-Johnstown’s AJ Leahey scored 27 points and grabbed five rebounds in a win over Gannon.
– IUP’s Shawn Dyer scored 25 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a win over Edinboro. Devante Chance added 24 points in the win.
– Mercyhurst’s Damon Jones averaged 15.0 points off of the bench in two wins for the Lakers.
