Teams from around the PSAC welcomed new additions to their families on Wednesday for National Signing Day. Four teams in the PSAC West have announced their signing class for the 2015 season.
IUP
The Crimson Hawks 17 new signees and two mid-year enrolles on Wednesday. Thirteen of the team’s recruits came from Pennsylvania. Eleven of the signees are on the offensive side of the ball while eight are on the defensive side. Of the 11 on offense, five are on the offensive line. Of the eight defensive player, four are on the d-line and four are in the secondary.
Running back Drew Harris headlines the Crimson Hawks’ class. Harris was part of Virginia Tech’s recruiting class and went to Fork Union Military Academy and then enrolled in ASA College. Then he was going to play at UMass but decided against it. He ran for 4,977 career yards in high school.

Mercyhurst
The Lakers signed 10 recruits on Wednesday. Six of the 10 signees are on the offensive side of the ball including a quarterback, running back, two wide receivers, a tight end and an offensive lineman.
Two of the recruits have local ties, most notably the brother of former Mercyhurst pitcher Dan Altavilla who was drafted in the MLB. Dan’s brother, Doug, is a quarterback out of Baldwin High School in Pittsburgh. The other local athlete is defensive back Jake Tarasovich, who played at McDowell High School in Erie.

Slippery Rock
The Rock signed 16 recruits on Wednesday. The class was balanced, having eight on both the offensive and defensive side. On offense, Slippery Rock signed four wide receivers and four offensive linemen.
Of note, The Rock’s signing class went a collective 165-35 a year ago. Ten of those won a conference title, five were on a district championship team, three were on team’s that made the state title game and one won a state championship. To help Slippery Rock’s high-speed offense, the team picked up the state’s leading receiver in Mike Merhaut from Pine-Richland High School. He caught passes for 1,532 yards and 16 touchdowns last fall.

Cal
The Vulcans signed eight recruits on Wednesday. Five of those recruits were on the offensive side while three were on the defensive side.
Cal’s class was put together in hopes of the signees competing for playing time immediately. One signing of note was coach Mike Kellar’s son, Jarrod, a quarterback. Jarrod is the leading passer in Harrison County, West Virginia history after completing just three seasons with Lincoln High School in Shinnston.
