The PSAC West teams began playing each other this past week, setting up some interesting matchups and giving some insight into the division.
Seton Hill and Edinboro started the week off with a close game in which Seton Hill won, 95-93. Max Kenyi led the way for the Griffins, which had five players in double figures, with 20 points. Henri Wade-Chatman led Edinboro with 28 points and 6 rebounds. Seton Hill would fall to IUP later in the week, 56-54. Malachi Leonard led the Griffins in that game with 14 points and 10 boards. Seton Hill moves to 5-3, 2-2 on the season.
IUP’s only game of the week was the game against Seton Hill. Marcel Souberbielle led the way with 14 points. The Crimson Hawks are now 7-0, 3-0. The Crimson Hawks are currently ranked #7 in the country.
Slippery Rock started their week with a 68-61 loss to Gannon. Matej Delinac led the Rock with 18 points off the bench. Adam Blazek led Gannon with 26 points. Slippery Rock rectified their loss with a 66-56 win over Pitt-Johnstown later in the week. Tabari Perry posted a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Bill Luther led Pitt-Johnstown with 22 points. Slippery Rock is now 7-2, 3-1.
After Edinboro’s early-week loss, they dropped another to Cal U late in the week, 70-65. Bryan Theriot had 22 points and 7 rebounds while Johnny Marsh added 21. For Cal, Tynell Fortune had 17 points. Edinboro is now 4-3, 0-3.
Despite the win over Edinboro, Cal dropped a 64-51 decision to Mercyhurst. Fortune had 11 points in the loss. Jonathan Ouegnin led Mercyhurst with 19 points and 6 rebounds. Cal is 2-6, 1-3.
The win was Mercyhurst’s only game of the week, moving them to 3-3, 2-0.
Clarion’s only game of the week came in the form of a 78-68 loss to Pitt-Johnstown. DeMarius Miller scored 22 for Clarion, which is now 1-3, 0-3.
For Pitt-Johnstown, Nate Snodgrass led the way with 18 points in the win over Clarion. Added with the loss to Slippery Rock, they’re 5-3, 2-2.
LEADERS
Johnny Marsh is fourth in the PSAC and leads the PSAC West with 20.3 points per game. Mathis Keita (18.3) is sixth in the PSAC, Bryan Theriot (18.1) seventh and Marcel Souberbielle (17.4) ninth.
Malachi Leonard is second in the PSAC and leads the PSAC West with 9.5 rebounds per game. Theriot (8.7) is fourth in the PSAC, Ian Vescovi (7.8) and Mike Kromka (7.8) are tied for seventh.
Marsh leads the PSAC with 4.7 assists per game and is third in assist/turnover ratio with 1.9.
Edinboro is second in the conference in scoring, posting 85.4 points per game.
Gannon has the best scoring defense, allowing just 57.5 points per game.
IUP is second in largest scoring margin, beating opponents by an average 14.4 points per game.
