As PSAC teams are well underway in the 2013 season, conference play is also underway. Let’s take a look at the week in review at how the PSAC West teams fared.
Slippery Rock, (5-1, 2-0) the only team in the PSAC West to play three games, won each of their games this week. In the first a 79-65 victory over Clarion, four players posted double-digit points, with Mauric Lewis-Briggs leading the way with 21 points and 11 boards. Tabari Perry also scored 20 points and snagged 11 rebounds. In the second victory, a 74-55 decision over Cal U, Josh Martin scored 20. In their final game, a staggering 113-72 stomping over Ohio Eastern, Erik Raleigh scored 29 points to go with his 10 rebounds.
Nationally ranked IUP (4-0, 2-0) kept their strong season going with two more wins this past week. In the first, a 76-62 victory over Pitt-Johnstown, three players stepped up. Marcel Souberbielle scored 26 points to lead the way, Mathis Keita scored 23 and Devon Cotrrel added 10 points and 12 boards. In the second game, a 68-47 win over Clarion, four players went for double figures. The Crimson Hawks were led by Devante Chance with 18 points.
Edinboro (3-1, 0-1) went 1-1 for the week, with a 88-73 victory over Urbana and a 91-87 loss to Pitt-Johnstown. In the win, Jonny Marsh scored a game-high 34 points on 12 of 20 shooting, including 5 of 7 from deep. In the loss, Marsh dropped 30 points on 10 of 18 shooting and 6 of 9 from three.
Gannon (1-1, 1-1) split it’s week, going 1-1. In a 59-51 win over Cal, Adam Blazek led the way with 20 points. In the second game, a 56-52 loss to Seton Hill, C.J. Oldham paced the Knights with 16 points and 8 rebounds.
Mercyhurst (1-3, 1-0) also went 1-1, picking up a 79-74 win over Seton Hill and dropping a 69-63 decision to Daemen College (N.Y.). In the win, Jean Onana led the way with 29. In the loss, Andy Hoying scored 13 points.
Pitt-Johnstown (3-1, 1-1) kept their balanced season going with a 76-62 loss to IUP and a 91-87 victory over Edinbro. In the loss, Ivan Vescovi posted a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards. In the victory, Nate Snodgrass scored 25 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.
Seton Hill (3-1, 1-1) is adding to their strong start despite a 79-74 loss to Mercyhurst with a 56-52 victory over Gannon. In the loss, Max Kenyi scored 25 points. In the victory, Malachi Leonard led the way with 19 points.
Cal’s (1-4, 0-2) struggles continued this past week as they dropped two conference games. In the first, a 59-51 loss to Gannon, Chris Williams scored 14 points and Arman Marks scored 10 points to go with 7 rebounds. In the second loss, a 74-55 loss to Slippery Rock, Tynell Fortune led the way with 20 points.
Clarion’s (1-2, 0-2) conference play started out slow after two conference losses this past week to Slippery Rock and IUP. In the 79-65 loss to the Rock, Darius Stevens came off the bench to record a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. In the 68-47 loss to IUP, Mike Kromka led the way with 16 points.
