A 1-10 start was not how the Seton Hill football envisioned its 2013 season, its first year of playing football in the PSAC. Now, another year older and more accustomed to the PSAC West, the Griffins hope to secure some wins.
Seton Hill received a decent season from redshirt sophomore quarterback Nick Halfhill, who appeared in 10 games for the Griffins last season. Halfhill threw for 1,002 yards and nine touchdowns for an offense which saw eight different players attempt passes.
Halfhill returns to lead the offense this season in what the Griffins hope to be a turnaround year but will be the team’s tight end while four quarterbacks battle for the starting job. Jarvis McClam was sort of the do-it-all man for Seton Hill last year. As a freshman, McClam threw 81 passes and led the team in rushing with 611 yards and four touchdowns. His position according to the team’s website? Receiver. He also caught 16 passes for 132 yards and a TD in 2013. The team’s leading receiver, Norman Darden, returns after catching 30 passes for 490 yards and five scores.
McClam will likely continue most of the running duties for the 2014 season, as well.
On the defensive side of the ball, senior standout linebackerTyler Zimmer returns after leading the team with 93 tackles, including 10.0 for a loss and 6.0 sacks. Linebacker Chase Parker also returns after hacking 77 tackles (14.0 for a loss) and five sacks. The tandem also picked off three passes.
Doing the kicking duties will likely be junior Jesser Boulnemour.
The Griffins begin their season tonight on the road against Shippensburg at 7 p.m.
