IUP 28, Mercyhurst 6
The IUP Crimson Hawks picked up a solid day from their running backs as De’Antwan Williams ran for 186 yards and a score en route to a 28-6 win over Mercyhurst.
IUP scored on their first two drives and took a 14-0 lead. They never looked back. After the Lakers put up a field goal in the second quarter, Williams scooted in from 25 yards out to put the Hawks up 21-3.
Mike Box would add a score on the ground to bring the Hawks to 28 on the day. He finished 10-of-19 for 103 yards. Terrill Barnes caught six passes for 71 yards on the day. IUP was able to hold Brandon Brown-Dukes to just 56 yards on the day.
IUP moves to 6-2 and Mercyhurst falls to 4-4.
Cal U 35, Gannon 7
Cal U rushed for a season-best 252 yards en route to a 35-7 win over Gannon.
Jeff Knox Jr. produced his first 100-yard game of the season as he rushed for 102 yards and two scores on the day. Nick Grissom added a career-best 81 yards and a score while Derrick Fiore added 56 yards.
Cal U controlled the ball most of the game and came out with almost a 10 minute advantage in time of possession. The Vulcans were able to hold one of the conferences top rushers in Jansen Jones to just 69 yards on the ground. They also forced Gannon quarterback Liam Nadler to throw two interceptions in the game.
Cal U improves to 6-2 and Gannon falls to 4-4.
Slippery Rock 44, Edinboro 20
Slippery Rock continued its tradition of high-powered offense as they routed Edinboro, 44-20.
Quarterback Nigel Barksdale threw for 342 yards and a score while Teddy Blakeman ran for a career-best 145 yards to get the win.
The Slippery Rock defense held Edinboro to just 64 yards on 32 carries and were able to stop the Knights three times when they were marching into the redzone.
For Edinboro, Jon Girvin ran for 50 yards and a touchdown while passing for 214 yards and another score.
The Rock improves to 7-1 and the Knights fall to 4-4.
Clarion 41, Seton Hill 2
Clarion’s defensive effort, led by Julian Howsare, came up big against Seton Hill as they bowled over the Griffins, 41-2.
Howsare blocked two punts and returned one for a score, recorded three tackles-for-loss and posted 10 total tackles. The defense recovered two blocked punts for a touchdown, with the first one coming from freshman Matt Lehman and the second coming from Howsare.
Offensively, quarterback Darelle Carson ran for 95 yards and threw for 69 and a score in the win. Running back Bobby Thomas ran for 60 yards and two scores in the win.
For Seton Hill, Bryant Harper had 67 yards on the ground while Jarvis McClam added 44. The Griffins scored their only points when they took an errant snap on a two-point conversion that they took the other way.
Clarion improves to 4-4 and Seton Hill falls to 0-8.
