#24 Slippery Rock 35, Cal U 17
With playoff and PSAC rankings in jeopardy, Slippery Rock was able to pull out a pivotal 35-17 win over Cal U.
The two teams traded blows in the first-half, but Slippery Rock would dominate the end of the second quarter, scoring 21 points in the final eight minutes. The Vulcans wouldn’t be able to catch up.
Nigel Barksdale ran for 125 yards and added 274 yards through the air while tossing two scores and running for another. John Schademan went over 100 yards receiving again, pulling in eight passes for 105 yards and a score. Cody Shroeder, who came in because of an injury, led Cal U with 176 passing yards and a score. Shroeder also led the team in rushing with 26 yards.
Slippery Rock moves to 8-1 and Cal U falls to 6-3. The win assures Slippery Rock a share of the PSAC West title.
IUP 42, Clarion 14
The IUP Crimson Hawks jumped on Clarion early and used a steady dose of De’Antwan Williams to get a solid 42-14 victory.
Williams ran for 129 yards and the game’s first two touchdowns. Two second-quarter turnovers by Clarion would put the Hawks in prime position for a win as they took a 28-7 halftime lead.
The Hawks got solid run support with Izzy Green running for 86 yards and Erik Finklea running for 57. Altogether, IUP had 277 rushing yards and 402 total yards. Two IUP passers also tossed touchdowns in the victory.
Clarion was led by Bobby Thomas and Travis Day on the ground. Thomas had 74 yards and Day had 61 and a score.
IUP moves to 7-2 and Clarion falls to 4-5.
Mercyhurst 19, Edinboro 6
Mercyhurst racked up 266 yards on the ground and held Edinboro’s offense in check en route to a 19-6 victory.
Allen Jones II ran for nearly three times as many yards as the entire Edinboro team, piling up 148 yards to Edinboro’s total of 51.
Edinboro nearly came back after Keith Regis scored his first career touchdown, bringing the Scots within 10 with 5:49 left in the first half, but Mercyhurst would go on to close the game out with a solid defensive effort.
Mercyhurst improves to 5-4 while Edinboro falls to 4-5.
Gannon 40, Seton Hill 21
Early on it seemed as if Seton Hill could pull out an upset win over Gannon on senior day, but Jansen Jones wouldn’t go out that way as he led his team to a 40-21 victory.
Jones ran for a career-best 220 yards and two scores on his last home game as a Knight. Jones became the first player in school history to rush for more than 200 yards in a game. He ran for 100-plus yards in each half for the Knights.
Seton Hill took an early 14-0 lead before miscues eventually turned the game in Gannon’s favor. The Griffin’s took the game’s first lead by returning the opening kickoff 87 yards for a score. They followed suit with a 10-yard touchdown toss from Jarvis McClam to Khalil Howard. McClam finished with 114 yards through the air and the score. He also added a rushing touchdown.
Gannon improves to 5-4 while Seton Hill remains winless at 0-9.
